Designing for Lily's Love - Cuerda seca

So I'm researching for a ceramic line to design and make for Lily's love campaign that I am starting. Something that I will upload and sell on my online store on Etsy ....

Some ideas come to mind - platters, dinner plates , bowls ... and something in my loves to make chop stick rests and ceramic spoons. The big question is how to decorate ? What makes a good surface design that makes the line unique and representation of deep love?

While I was doing research on various coloring, prints and painting echniques, I came across a design that I used quite a few years back. It was my dry line painintg series. It's called cuerda seca - means the "dry line" or the "dry cord". It's basically a technique derived from the Spanish/ Moorish region which uses iron or manganese suspended in oil/fat/grease.

If you've seen the intricate design of spanish tiles or the moorish tiles in mosques you will understand the beauty and the hours and hours of love and work that went into it.

What better way to try it out? And on something as passionate as a red poppy? See my Red Poppy Series -

I was also researching Morris Williams Textile designs and have fallen in love (again!) with his intricate colorings and patterns on his textiles. And I did try it out on one of my coffee pots -

And surprisingly, I have also fallen in love Josef Frank's textile designs. There is a sense of freedom and passionate energy that comes across from the free flowing lines and startling colors. Hmmmm, which makes me think ... something inspired by Josef Frank?

Possibly ... just possibly ...

I've never had time to delve into the clay arts, but I have a great appreciation for ceramics. Your compositions and colors are just wonderful.
